Homeschool This Year and Lots of Changes

So we changed our curriculum this year for our homeschool focus. I wanted to go back to a totally classical method of doing things. My Father's World met a need at the time we used it but this has been FANTASTIC! We are now going to Classical Conversations once a week and then the curriculum I am using with them is centered around what we are learning for that week. I am AMAZED!!! This is what all they will learn this year: 161 events and people in a chronological timeline 44 U.S. Presidents (hopefully 45) 24 history sentences to add depth to our timeline 120 locations and geographic features in Africa, Europe, and the Old World 24 science facts (including classifications of living things and each continent's highest mountain) 5 Latin noun endings and their singular and plural declensions English grammar facts (including 53 prepositions, 23 helping verbs, and 12 linking verbs) Multiplication tables up to 15x15, common squares and cubes, as well as basic geometry formulas and unit conversions Memorizing Exodus 20 Not to mention: Exposure to drawing techniques Music theory and tin whistle 6 great artists and related projects Introduction to orchestra and 3 classical composers 12 Science experiments, 12 science projects and... 24 oral presentations They are also going to Essentials and pre-Essentials That is where they go into grammar more indepth and Abby has been writing papers in a way I have NEVER seen before. The writing process she is learning is AMAZING!

When Do I Start?

Well I had planned on starting school today. You see I have one MAJOR problem, we moved and I still have stuff in boxes and not sure where everything is. Not to mention, I need to plan for school also. So the beauty of homeschooling is we can start when we want, take breaks when we want, and end once we have our required amount of days in.

So I am unpacking more boxes today, doing some much needed planning, and then going for a much needed hair cut and color. We will either start next week or the week after. For now we are enjoying our summer and updating our school room.

New School Year: 4th Grade, 1st grade, and a toddler

That is what this year will be made off. We will be using My Father's World as our main curriculum this year. It is a great curriculum and we enjoyed it last year. This year for the 4th grader we are studying Creation to the Greeks, this includes Bible, History, Science, Art and Music. She will be using Math U See, Total Language Plus, and Latin for Children.

My first grader will also be using My Father's World first grade and sit in with her big sister when she wants too. She has her own set of student sheets and art cards for the Bible, History, and Art. She will have enough with the first grade but I learned last year that sometimes she likes to be included with the other activities. She will also do Math U See and a Phonics program for right brained children. She is my very creative soul.

For our busy toddler. She will have her own box of activities. When I work with one of the older girls the other girl gets to play with her sister and do these fun activities with her. When I get her box situated I will do a post specifically for that with fun pictures for you all to see.

She is 9

My oldest girl turned 9 in June (the one in maroon) I know I am slow to post these things but I want to post every year about my girls because it will be something we enjoy later I am sure. Cool facts

1. She loves Jesus and wants to be a missionary.
2. She loves dance.
3. She got her pointe shoes this summer. BIG DEAL! (pic below)
4. Yellow has ALWAYS been her favorite color.
5. She cares about others and has a heart for her friends.
6. This year has gotten particular about fashion and what she wears.
7. Her favorite food: black olives.
8. Can be bossy and I have to remind her that she is the kid.
9. Loves her little sisters and is a HUGE help with them.
10. Loves learning.
11. Just like her mama in many ways. ;)
12. My social bug, always wants to have someone over or go to someones house.
13. Disciplining her is hard, she is really obedient most of the time.
14. She is becoming very beautiful to others around her especially her parents.
15. Has great self confidence (one area she is different from her mama).

Here is another picture of her feet that her teacher is working with while dancing. Her teacher Ms. Jaime means so much to her and has a great impact on her love for dancing and her passion for it.

Disclamer: These pictures are from her first day en pointe. Technique and ballet technique is of HUGE importance for Ms. Jaime but I am no dance teacher. I just loved these pictures b/c they are my daughter and Ms. Jaime helping her.
